Unmarried Couples

In the UK, couple who choose to live together do not have the same rights as married couples or a couple in a civil partnership, when it comes to property or inheritance.

Cohabiting couples do not have the same legal rights as married couple under English law, for example relating to finances and children.

It is important to remember that if you live in a property, which is in your partners’ sole name, you do not have an automatic right to a share in the property.

A cohabitation agreement, can sometimes provide some legal protection.
